Just 10 minutes from the city's center is The World of Wearable Arts & Classic Cars Museum, also rightfully known as WOW. The gallery is an incomparable combination of two collections - cars and incredible wearable works of art from around the world.
This year, the "Symbols of Culture" exhibit will be on display until the end of May. The gallery will feature garments inspired by delicate shells, ballet, Maori tattoos, the Pacific Ocean, high fashion and horse racing. In the Classic Car gallery, bold and stylish automobiles will stand alongside elegant and seductive iconic Italian designs. The two displays - one feminine and extravagant, the other sleek and industrial - create two distinguished worlds within the realm of art.
On any given Saturday, hit up the Nelson Market, a unique local marketplace that sells "everything under the sun," as its website boldly states. With over 200 vendors in Montgomery Square, it might be hard to pass up the weekly event from early morning until afternoon. Showcasing the best handmade arts, crafts and gourmet foods, the iconic vendor fest often relies heavily on the theme, "Waitangi weekend," emphasizing its roots in Maori culture, cuisine and history. Visit the city and see for yourself the immersion of the arts in every facet of its culture.
