Witness dolphins in the wild in Australia's Shark Bay region

Visit Monkey Mia, the dolphin resort area of Australia. Every year, thousands of visitors travel to Australia's Shark Bay region to witness the gregarious animals and swim along with them in the warm waters. Unlike many resort attractions, this area is their wild habitat, meaning that the dolphins roam free and ultimately decide when they visit the shore.
These dolphins are such a prized possession of the Monkey Mia area that a lab for extensive behavioral and biological research on bottlenose dolphins has run under the supervision of researchers Richard Connor and Rachel Smolker since 1982. In recent years, the studies have also included other species of dolphin residing in the Shark Bay area. Scientists from North America and Europe have traveled to the island country to contribute to the mammal studies.
